Locum NUM

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) to lead the clinical operations of a busy private day surgery in Western Sydney. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality care across pre-op, theatres, and recovery.

The successful candidate will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, nursing staff, and administrative teams to maintain clinical excellence, staff engagement, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead and manage nursing teams across all perioperative areas
2. Oversee day-to-day clinical operations, patient flow, and resource allocation
3. Ensure high standards of patient safety, infection control, and clinical governance
4. Coordinate staff rostering, training, and performance management
5. Support accreditation and compliance processes (NSQHS Standards, ACHS etc.)
6. Foster a collaborative and positive team culture
7. Liaise with surgeons, anaesthetists, and practice management to support efficient case scheduling and service delivery

Requirements:

1. Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
2. Minimum 5 years of perioperative nursing experience, with prior leadership or management experience (NUM, CNC, or similar)
3. Strong knowledge of day surgery operations, standards, and best practices
4. Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
5. Experience with clinical governance, accreditation, and staff management
6. Relevant postgraduate qualifications in perioperative nursing or healthcare management (desirable)
